This Year’s New Year’s Resolutions

So for your New Year’s Resolutions in 2012, it’s time to get serious about diet, lifestyle, AND proper supplementation. Here is our plan:

  1. We will eat healthy, REAL foods. A diet based on VEGETABLES, not grains. But to be more specific:

    1. No artificial foods. Imagine this. If your great grandmother would have never heard of the food, then DON’T eat it.

      High fructose corn syrup? POISON. Do Not Touch!

      Corn oil? Vegetable oil? DO NOT TOUCH.

      Soybean oil? ANYTHING from Soy (spare the occasional edamame)? Avoid!

      Things that says the word “hydrogenated” in them (trans fats)? Avoid like the plague!

    2. If it has more than 5 ingredients, chances are, it’s not a food, but is a “food-like substance”. Inspect it carefully and stay away from all of those preservatives.

    3. Base your diet in colorful, leafy vegetables. After that come lean meats and fish, nuts, eggs, and fruits. Dairy works for some people, not for others. Be your best judge. Non-soy legumes such as peanuts and beans are in that same boat.

      But it’s all about vegetables first! Your body doesn’t crave ENERGY, it craves NUTRIENTS. Give it to it!

  2. We will become students of the game. This means reading books like Fat Loss Factor to understand why we preach the things we preach on this site.

  3. We will work out hard. We will consider getting a trainer or joining a team-based gym. But we’re not talking about slow, boring cardio. Sorry folks, but if you want to burn fat and “lose weight” (we hate that term here), you need to lift weights — HEAVY weights occasionally — and also do high intensity interval training (HIIT).

    Slow cardio does nothing but burn energy that you replace the next time you eat. Toning muscle keeps the fat burning going LONG after that. This has been proven countless times, but nobody wants to admit it because it’s hard. Well, life IS hard sometimes, so deal with it or keep getting the same results you get every year.

  4. We will be positive thinkers, and will think for ourselves this year.

  5. We will discredit conventional wisdom in search of the truth preached above… or we will keep getting the same results year after year.

  6. We will track our goals, and make new friends in the process.

  7. We will embrace our plateaus, and use them to improve our form and show our determination. They happen to everyone, and show your true character. Beginner gains (losses) are easy. Keeping your 2012 new year’s resolutions through the April plateau is not. But we’re here with you.

  8. We will NOT focus solely on weight, but also on BODYFAT. How you fit in your clothes. Guess what – if you’re building/toning muscle, you may actually gain weight but LOSE fat. This is an INCREDIBLE thing! Do not be discouraged if you start lifting weights and you don’t “lose weight” – that is the biggest newbie mistake ever!

    Forget the scale, look at your belt buckle, that pair of jeans, and the mirror for REAL feedback.

    That’s why we strive to burn fat, not just lose weight for our new year’s resolutions.
